How to Avoid Dieting and Weight Loss the Wrong Way

Dieting and weight loss may be a lifelong event for many of us, but it should not be our main occupation. With the right changes in lifestyle and habits we won't need to fall to the psychological fallacies of modern advertising.

I really love those diet product TV commercials with those pretty, perfectly shaped "specimens" telling us how we can lose more pounds in less days. For each new product, the advertisers try to say, "this one is better than the others."

What's so attractive about these ads nowadays is that they work every time - even when we know we're being manipulated. After they hide the fine print "disclosures" or electronically alter its playback speed so you can't understand anything...

After they mumble about the potential side effects, and who should not use the product if they have this or that condition... after all that, they still get people to buy the diet pills and diet plans like it is in short supply.

Weight Loss Diet Pills

People seem to fall for things manufactured or packaged in a laboratory. Even water. Why? Is it that we are really amazed at the "glory" of modern technology? Imagine selling fiber pills that is simply providing the stuff we should already be including in our meals, and we pay for it without question.

And we swallow them, and they absorb water and "fill" us, and stem the rage of our hunger so that we eat less, feel better, and lose weight, and then we say, "Aha! It works!" The same result could have happened had we stuck with high fiber foods like corn on the cob, string beans, whole wheat bread, and brown rice; all eaten in moderation and at proper times.

Instant dieting and weight loss

I still can not say for sure why the dieting and weight loss commercials still gather more disciples by the thousands, but I do suspect it has to do with the convenience and promise of "quick" results. We live in an age of "instant satisfaction". It's as if we are saying, "It may have taken 5 months to gain this weight but I want to lose it all in 5 days!"

Well, one major concern I have about this philosophy is that such dieting and weight loss processes tend to be very cyclical. In my opinion, that's not a good way to make me use the word "efficiency." I think this is dieting the wrong way. It would be much better if we gradually change those habits that promote weight gain, than to go for the "quick fixes."

Anti-diabetes diet and lifestyle

Eighty percent of type 2 diabetics are overweight. Now, we know how important weight control is, especially for diabetics. Each extra pound we lose adds significant health benefits in terms of decreased risk for diabetic complications and longevity. But diabetics have to be extra careful of avoiding potential side effects of weight loss drugs and inadequate diets especially not suited for an already-compromised metabolism.

With the popular dieting and weight loss programs, most "losers" will be repeating the weight loss cycle after a year or so. Some accounts say 95% regain the weight in about a year. Why? Maybe, it's because the habits that promote the weight gain have not changed.

But those TV ads...

Well, I still love the diet commercials on TV; even for the humor. But I think most are promoting the wrong way to diet. Why don't we just "eat right" and forget the dieting? Eating the right foods at the right times, in the right amounts **and** having regular exercise is guaranteed to regulate our body weight.

Don't you think that this instant weight loss and dieting is just the wrong way to try to control our appetite?
